Hi! I'm Judith and I paint with bright colours on canvas and embroider them with fine yarn.
I find my inspiration in traditional embroideries made by women and in the architecture and colours that surround me when Iām in Crete.
I have always been fascinated by embroidered fabrics and woven carpets. I was inspired by their uniqueness and also by the personal touch of the people who make them.
During my research into traditional Cretan craftswomanship, I came across a wide variety of colours, motifs and patterns. Also my mother-in-law has incredible talent and countless woven carpets and elaborately embroidered fabrics in her house.

While talking to a museum attendant in Athens, the literally connecting nature of yarn came to mind for the first time:
She told me how her grandmother used to go from door to door in the village with a basket full of cotton, talking to her neighbours and spinning the thread. When she returned home, she had a finished spool of yarn and also knew exactly what was going on in the village.

The women who inspire me personally inspire society with their attitude, their business and their creativity. Women who care about social justice.
Women who dare to let their businesses grow slowly.
Focusing on quality rather than quantity.
Women who will not be visible at any cost, yet still leave a visible mark.
I connect them through the thread I use for embroidery and the patterns that have been passed down for generations. I see a lot of power in their artwoks because women with no schooling were able to make stunning pieces of art.
